Funny Friday

Earlier this week I posted the blooper reel that I had promised in my last Birchbox video. If you haven't watched it and feel like laughing at my expense, then I definitely recommend it.

March Birchbox

March is almost over already! I swear every month goes faster than the last but, I'm excited for Spring. Not that Southern California has a rough winter WHATSOEVER (we had days in the 90s in the past couple months!) but it's still nice when Spring rolls around.

So... even though I said I would most likely NOT be getting another Birchbox, here I am, with another one.

It's a funny story (which I also mention in the video). Last month some (insert derogatory noun here) stole almost a thousand dollars from my checking account through the e-quick pay system. Because it was through my online banking I had to close and re-open ALL of my accounts. My checking account. My savings account. AND even my credit card. My bank was wonderful throughout the process but it's still SUCH a headache. As I mentioned, I was planning on cancelling my Birchbox membership. My membership fee comes directly from my credit card every month so I kind of thought to myself, well... since the card doesn't exists anymore, I guess I don't have to cancel my membership, it will just, in a way, cancel itself. Well... needless to say, I was wrong. A few days ago I got an email saying "Your Birchbox has shipped!" and sure enough, yesterday it was in my mailbox. Don't worry, I plan on calling and straightening it all out but, until then, here's another Birchbox video for you!

Also, as I mention in the video, I've been cookin' up a bloopers video that I can't wait to share. I'm not sure if I should wait and keep adding to it until its a good length OR if I should just make several shorter ones as I go but what I have so far is pretty good, not gunna lie. Haha. I hope everyone had a happy and safe St. Patrick's Day!

February Birchbox!

Well, it goes without saying that I haven't made time to blog recently. Lately I've been so busy this is always the first thing to get neglected but, nonetheless, here I am! (and with a Birchbox video no less!)

So, last month, when I did this video with my friend and roommate Stefana I had mentioned how my excitement for Birchbox had been dwindling pretty much more and more each box. This box marked the 8 month mark and, while I've enjoyed receiving the boxes, I think that the excitement might have run its course and it might be time to try something new.

This month because of the big storm "Nemo" on the east coast my Birchbox was snowed in. Generally boxes are sent out by the 10th. I received an e-mail on the 9th saying that my box was snowed in. Then on the 13th I got an e-mail saying that it had shipped BUT because of the holidays and everything I didn't get my box until the 19th, not to mention, my roommate Stefana STILL hasn't received hers. As I mention in the video, I just kind of see all of this as signs that its probably time to move on. I just know that when I cancel my subscription the next box is going to be like the BEST one, because that's the kind of luck I have. So, we'll see what I end up doing but for now, enjoy my latest installment of Birchbox videos with my spaz of a friend Danica.

Spartan Race and January Birchbox!

This weekend was the So Cal Super Spartan Race. My boyfriend and his brother had the crazy idea to sign up for this race months ago and they've been training for it ever since.

If you're unfamiliar here is their official promo video:
When I first saw this video I was like "You are NOT doing that". Clearly... he didn't listen to me.

We headed out to Temecula Saturday morning for the boys' 1:15pm start time. Originally I was kind of bummed that it was supposed to rain but, in retrospect, the weather was actually pretty perfect.

Here we are at the registration booth. I had to sign a waiver just to be a spectator!
Sam and his brother had been looking forward to this race for so long. (They definitely have some strong genes in that family, don't you think?)
The race consisted of about an 8 mile course with 20+ obstacles throughout like, army crawling under barbed wire through mud, swimming through the lake, pulling cinder blocks, flipping tractor tires and much more.

Sams mom and I spent the day cheering for and supporting our boys (and maybe having a few beers along the way ;)) It was my first time really spending a good chunk of one on one time with her and it was a lot of fun.
Sam finished before all of his friends. I am beyond proud of him. He finished and he finished strong and now, all he can talk about is doing the even BIGGER Spartan Race next!

I sent this photo to my mom and she couldn't believe how good he looked after finishing.
Haha. She's always said how cute he is. The first time she met him, she text me shortly after we left with: "OMG cutest ever!"

It was a great day and I can't say enough how proud I am of my man. He set a goal and he finished it. He beat the goals he had for himself and now, he wants to do even more!
So, looks like I'll be a spectator at another Spartan Race again soon.

On another note, I got my Birchbox earlier in the month and just haven't had the time to film a video of it.
Also, I wanted to either get Danica or Stefana to do the video with me to show two different boxes.

So last night Stefana and I were both finally home at the same time and I decided it would be a perfect time to film my latest Birchbox video so, here it is!

In the beginning of the video it is taking everything in me not to hysterically laugh. It's definitely a lot harder to film a video with someone else vs. alone but, we did it and it turned out pretty good.

(Also, if you've missed any of my other Birchbox videos and would like to catch up, you can view them all on my YouTube Channel)

After getting the box for about 7 months now, I might be canceling my subscription soon. And it's not because I don't like the box. It's just that my collection of samples is starting to seem to be a lot of similar products because I've been getting it for awhile now.

Subscription boxes are the hot new thing and there are so many other cool ones that I would love to try. So, we'll see what I end up doing but as for now, I still have my Birchbox subscription and I'll continue making videos.

December Birchbox!

So my December Birchbox came on Saturday (which I feel like was later than usual) and it ended up being perfect timing!

Danica, Stefana and I decided to do our friends gift exchange on Saturday. As part of each of their Christmas gifts I got them both a three month Birchbox subscription. Theirs both came really early (earlier than mine) and I was hoping that we could all open them together. So, when mine arrived Saturday just, before the exchange, I was excited! We all opened our together. Their boxes varied from mine slightly, as I mention in the video.

So here is my December video (please excuse my disheveled appearance and my horribly manicured nails, it's Christmastime! I think we're all a little busy. Haha)

Also, I don't know why there is that odd fuzzy sound in the video and please ignore any other background sounds. You can hear my dogs collars jingling a little and you can hear the neighbors ANNOYING dogs that bark LITERALLY INCESSANTLY. It takes everything in me not to go over there but it's the neighbor on the other side of the block so its too much work. Haha.

(for information of products in the box, check out the details on my youtube page)

*Side Note: immediately after filming I painted my nails, just so you all know. Haha.*

Novem-brrrrr Birchbox

Happy November!

(I know it's already the 16th but I haven't blogged yet this month. Whoopsies!)

It's finally starting to feel like fall (though there are still some gorgeous California days sprinkled in).

November is when the holidays are in full effect, retailers are pushing Christmas onto us full force. I've seen the words "Black Friday" more times than I've seen the word "Thanksgiving" lately which, to me, is kind of sad. We should be given this chance to give thanks before the mass media shoves the latest electronics down our throats. I don't know how they manage to do it but each year it seems like Christmas comes earlier and earlier. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not some ba-humbug scrooge who hates Christmas. I love Christmas. I just wish Thanksgiving was given it's chance to be celebrated before Christmas is forced upon us.

That being said, I received my November Birchbox on Wednesday. The theme of this box was "Give", very fitting for the month of November. Finally, someone not skipping right over Thanksgiving! So, without further adieu... here is my review:

*Sidenote: No matter WHAT I do, the three "thumbnail choices" for my videos are always AWFUL... thats why I tried to make a little title screen... I thought that MAYBE it would let me choose that as a thumbnail but obviously... I was wrong. Haha.*

I hope you get a chance to spend the next week giving thanks and really celebrating what Thanksgiving is all about.

OctoBIRCHBOX

Aaaaand here it is!
The October Birchbox!

Finally! I'm all caught up! I did all four Birchboxes in less than a month. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised I did it, but, it's been fun and I've been enjoying it.

So, without further adieu, I present to you, the first time I've ever done a Birchbox in the month that it actually IS! haha

{Side note: the "sponsor" this month is "Goop". Danica uses that word all the time and I find it hillarious, SO... watch me try to keep a straight face every time I have to say it.}

Catchin Up!

It has been less than three weeks and here is my THIRD Birchbox review as promised. I'm pretty proud of the fact that I've kept up with it (with sporadic timing, yes, but I've kept up nonetheless haha).

This is the review of the September Birchbox which means, I am almost officially all caught up! I received my October box just last week so once I do that one I will be up-to-date.

On another note this last weekend was a busy one.
My boyfriends dad recently had, what I understand to be a couple of minor heart and had to get two stints put in, so we drove down to Pala Casino (his destination of choice) to spend the evening hanging out. It was actually a lot of fun and I got a chance to know him a little better AND he gave us a free room that they got!
Then Saturday was my moms birthday. We spent the day spoiling her. I made her favorite, yellow cake with chocolate frosting. A family birthday tradition.
And, of course, I love any excuse to use all the cute wrapping paper that I have :)
Then Sunday was my beautiful friend Tina's bridal shower. I've known Tina since I was probably 18. We used to work together at the hell hole that is best known as Red Robin. It's funny because I'm sure anyone who has worked in the restaurant industry would agree, it is both the best and worst times EVER. The people that you have to deal with on a daily basis are awful, BUT the people that you work WITH... are some of the best friends you'll ever have. I'm still friends with so many of the people that I spent my Red Robin years with. I even live with one of them! (Stefana) But anyways... back to the shower. My friend (and Tina's Maid of Honor AND yet another fellow Red Robin-er) Wilma (of Lovely Jubilee) truly outdid herself. Everything was gorgeous from the invitations, to the linens to the icing on the cake (literally, it was pink and gold! so cute!) It was a lovely day with lovely people.
Tina is going to make the most gorgeous bride.

All in all it was a busy busy weekend but a lot of fun.

Stay tuned for my October Birchbox review!

August Birchbox

In my last post I did my first ever video and it was my July Birchbox review. I received a pretty good response to it and even though it was kind of terrifyingly embarrassing to post a video of myself and hope people liked it, at the same time it was kind of fun so... here I am, back with another one!

Here is my August Birchbox review. Enjoy! :)

I tried to kill two birds with one stone and I also filmed my September Birchbox review last night but once I was finished recording it was nowhere to be found on my computer so... looks like I'll have to redo it. I'm actually having fun with the whole process and am starting to learn things on iMovie and on YouTube and am looking forward to possibly doing more videos like tutorials, hauls, favorite things and whatever else I can!

In other news, I have a new obsession. I told my friend Danica that I wasn't going to tell anyone about this obsession but I must. Ready for my obsession confession? Here goes...

I'M ADDICTED TO "THE WALKING DEAD"

There. I said it! Not since my heart was broken when my favorite show "Lost" was cancelled have I allowed myself to get involved in another TV drama. The loss of "Lost" was like a break-up for me. I would tell people that "Lost" was the longest relationship I ever had. (Six years is a pretty long time). The other night my boyfriend convinced me to watch an episode of "The Walking Dead" and let me say, I was pretty reluctant. Of course, after the first episode, I was hooked (After all, it DOES have kind of a Lost-vibe to it). I had my snide comments about the marginal acting and the southern accents that faded in and out but really I was just giving him a hard time because I didn't want him to be right and I didn't want to be sucked into this show but... it was too late. We proceeded to spend the rest of the weekend watching the entire first and second seasons so that I could be all caught up for the start of season 3 on Sunday night and now, I am officially an addict. I find myself spending a lot of the day playing out scenarios in my head about what would happen in the event of a zombie apocalypse. I've never been the type who is into zombies (which I know is like a giant chunk of people) and, to be honest, I still wouldn't say that I'm "into" zombies. But I AM into "The Walking Dead". And I feel much better since getting that off of my chest.

Stay tuned for my September Birchbox review and if there are any other "The Walking Dead" addicts out there, feel free to let me know.

shea

Birchbox!!

To say it's been awhile since my last blog would be an understatement. I keep saying I'm going to blog and then never make the time for it. I've become one of those girls that we all hate who spends almost all of her free time with her boyfriend. barf.

Luckily, my friend Kristy, of Little Miss Running Pants, has lit a bit of a fire under my booty. Several months back I decided to check out Birchbox. If you have never heard of it, it is a monthly box of high end beauty and lifestyle samples. It's pretty much a girls dream. At only ten dollars, it is worth it just for the sheer excitement it brings when you see a new one in your mailbox. What also makes it worth it is that you are given a chance to test out products that you may not have bought otherwise, perhaps due to price. This way you can test out the products and if you don't like them you don't have to feel guilty for spending a ton of money... BUT if you DO then you can buy the product with confidence in knowing that you've already tried and and like it. It really is a great idea and to be honest, I'm almost upset that I didn't do it sooner.

Now, back to Kristy... she was one of the first to know that I had decided to join Birchbox and when I got my first box she asked me about it. Rather than telling her everything that was inside, I told her that I was going to do a blog on it that week so that she can see what it's all about. Now, here we are, a couple of Birchboxes and a couple of MONTHS later and I still haven't done that original post. She asked me again today about it and I decided thats its! I need to get this done...I'm going to do it today!

So... I've decided to kill two birds with one stone for this post. I will finally be doing my review of my first Birchbox AND I decided to do it in a video/vlog/whateveryouwanttocallit. PLEASE don't judge me too much on this video, like I said, it's my very first one so bare with me. It's hard to know where to look and which direction is which and I found myself stumbling over my words and saying "um" "uh" and "and" a lot. Still, I feel like a video is the best way to really show the box and I'm glad I did it. So, this one's for you Kristy... enjoy! <3
{Side note: for some reason the video skips in a couple of spots. I didn't do any editing to the video so I'm not sure why it cuts out but... you'll still get the gist}
