DIY Burlap Hanging Wall Banner

I'm excited to be back today to bring another installment of the "Create with Cricut Challenge" put on by Amber Simmons and Katie of Clarks Condensed. If you didn't get a chance to see my previous projects for the challenge you can find my felt project here and my cereal box project here

If you're unfamiliar with the challenge, each month they choose a mystery material for us to create with using our Cricut and this month, the material is a burlap! I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of burlap. It's messy, hard to work with and a little too rustic for me. When I went to my local Joann's to grab some, I was intrigued by the black burlap. It felt much less rustic and even a little modern.

I'm a big fan of the wall banner trend that I've been seeing lately, so I decided to try to make one out of burlap. (Check out this post to see how I created one with a more traditional cotton fabric.) I was skeptical about how the burlap would cut, even with a stabilizer, but it cut wonderfully!

Look at those crisp cut lines! The Maker is seriously amazing!

Bakers Twine
Cricut BrightPad (optional)

Cricut EasyPress (or a standard iron)

I started by designing my file in Design Space.

(Lately when working with vinyl and iron on vinyl I've been putting a box around my sentiment for easier weeding.)

Like I said, I was pretty skeptical with how the burlap would cut so I added some stabilizer, loaded it into my machine and said a little prayer.

When I went to pull it off my mat, I audibly gasped.

Look how clean that cut is! On BURLAP! I was shocked (pleasantly of course).

From there it was time for the fun part. Using the EasyPress settings guide, I added my iron on to the burlap (the Raspberry color is my new favorite). Then using my glue gun I added my fringe trim (I've been looking for an excuse to use this trim from Hobby Lobby, isn't it adorable??). I used my crop a dile to add holes to the top of the banner to hang it from my dowel, and that's it!

To my surprise, I actually ended up enjoying working with burlap, something I never thought would happen. Don't forget to check back next month, when the challenge material is going to be tissue paper!

Self Care with Cricut // DIY Robe & Slipper Set

I was recently asked by Jessica from the DIBY Club if I'd be interested in doing a "Self Care with Cricut" blog tour. I of course jumped at the chance! I'm all about self care and as we all know... I'm ALL ABOUT my Cricut. The DIBY Club released this adorable women's pajama suit pattern and the whole theme of the release is getting more women to take time for self care! And the best news? One lucky reader will win a copy of the pattern!

I decided for my project I wanted to do a matching robe and slipper set. One of my favorite ways to take care of myself is to just. do. NOTHING. I'm currently working too many jobs to count and even though sometimes it takes some coaxing (usually by my husband), I love to throw a robe on (I have a newfound love for robes), some slippers and just veg out, which usually consists of, watching a little Netflix (read: an entire season of a show), munching on a salty snack and just doing nothing.

Supplies

Robe (similar
Cricut BrightPad (optional)
Cricut EasyPress (or a standard iron)

Start by designing your file in Cricut Design Space. I decided to go with "Do Not Disturb" for my robe and "Off Duty" for my slippers. Once I was happy with my file, I cut it with my Maker. (Remember: with iron on vinyl, it always goes shiny side down, and don't forget to mirror!)

Once my file was cut, I used my BrightPad to help with weeding. It can be really difficult to see your cut lines so the BrightPad cuts your weeding time way down.

Once everything was weeded, it was time to take it over to the EasyPress. The EasyPress is seriously life changing. If you are a big iron-on user, it is a must-have tool. It takes the guess work out of iron on vinyl! They even have this handy settings chart that they are continually updating!

For the slippers I wasn't really sure what EasyPress setting to use so I just sort of made up my own. I did 320 degrees for 20 seconds and it worked great! *TIP*: Be careful when ironing or using the EasyPress on the slippers because the soles will melt, so try to keep your heat source away from them.

And that's all there is to it! All that's left to do is kick your feet up and relax!

DIY "Irish You Were Beer" Can Cooler

As an Irish girl with a shamrock tattoo I couldn't not do a St. Patrick's Day project! But I'm not a t-shirt-with-a-saying kind of girl... I'm a craft beer drinking girl, and as such, my DIY is, of course a can cooler.
Create your own "Irish You Were Beer" Can Cooler!
It's a super simple way to show your Irish pride or, if you're not Irish, your love of beer!

Supplies

Can Cooler (I buy them in bulk to have on hand whenever I need them)
Cricut BrightPad (optional)
Cricut EasyPress (or your iron)
I created several designs to choose from (find the link at the bottom of the post) but this one is my favorite. And I love how, using the slice tool, I was able to overlap the gold of the design.

Start by opening my predesigned file and choose which design you'd like to use and cut it out. Once it's cut, simply weed the design and iron it on to whatever you'd like to add it to! That's the great thing about this file is that you can put it on anything, not just a can cooler!
